Fire below the Oceans

Dark Nights blanket a seeping storm,
And the leaves whisper under a grey sky.
Beyond on the peaks, sunlight shines,
And underneath the sky, darkness crawls.

Black clouds deny the sun,
To enforce the failing light.
Faint stars blink into an oblivion black,
And sea birds cry into the night.

I am proud as the vast seas,
But as poor as the becalmed water.
The ocean has stopped breathing,
And still the days run shorter.

What have you but a lofty dream?
And what have I but words?
The colours are fading fast to grey,
And the sun is fading like derelict herds.

From the darkened clouds falls sanctifying rain,
And the mighty breeze blows across.
The heathen shores still remain quiet,
And the water teems with life.

The siege has lifted, the sun is free,
And it sets the clouds on fire.
The ocean now breathing reflects the same,
And the red in the ocean runs higher.
